Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) driver and NASCAR Cup team owner Denny Hamlin’s future on the track remains uncertain. It has been a hot topic lately. Hamlin’s contract with JGR will expire at the end of the 2023 NASCAR season, and a new contract has not been signed yet. The 42-year-old’s partnership with his primary sponsor Fed-Ex also remains uncertain. Hamlin has been a crucial part of JGR for 18 years.
He has delivered solid performances and proved worthy of his seat. As his contract expires at the end of the year, the motorsports world is watching his move closely. However, Denny Hamlin has opened up on his contract talks and expressed his opinion on the situation. He explained that it is a process and nothing has changed.
Denny Hamlin spoke to Frontstretch about his contract ahead of the iconic Indianapolis Road Course race. He stated, “I mean, nothing big has changed. It is a process and obviously, with the relationship with Toyota, you know, being in the middle of the triangle between 23XI, myself, and Joe Gibbs Racing, we have to get a deal done all around before I can do anything permanent.”
Denny Hamlin reveals he loves being at Joe Gibbs Racing
Though nothing is confirmed, Denny Hamlin expressed interest in staying with Joe Gibbs‘s team. He said, “I always look at the landscape, but I’d love being at Joe Gibbs Racing, and certainly, Joe’s been fantastic to me. I don’t see our relationship ever souring. I think mine and Joe’s relationship will always stay strong, and it’s where I wanna finish my career.”
Hamlin has openly admitted his desire to remain with Joe Gibbs Racing, and it’s their move now. However, it remains to be seen how things will turn out. Kyle Busch moved from Toyota to Chevrolet and surprised the fans with his move last season. Now motorsports enthusiasts wonder if Denny Hamlin could make a move similar to Busch. Although, it is unlikely as the 23XI Racing owner wants to stay with Joe Gibbs Racing.
As the 2023 NASCAR season has progressed, the fans are awaiting Denny Hamlin’s contract renewal with JGR. After all, the 42-year-old has had a good run with the team. Hamlin had a career of highs and lows with them, and he hopes to make more memories with JGR. His next move remains to be seen.
