Before the start of a triple-header weekend, news broke out that the pavement in Sonoma was breaking apart. Soon after this, Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin took a dig at the circuit owners on their lack of a proper budget for such intensive and crucial tasks. Speedway Motorsports Inc. President Marcus Smith wasn’t impressed by the three times Daytona 500 winners’ post and had some wild replies.

The beef started when Denny Hamlin took to X and shared a post from Reddit depicting the state of the track in Sonoma. He wrote “When paving on a budget goes wrong. NWB will be next.” Infuriated Marcus Smith, who retaliated by trying to invalidate the 23XI Racing co-owners by mocking him of his lack of championship and reminding him of how his supposed ignorance could create some issues.

This is a great post from somebody who doesn’t know all the information. Ignorance on display for the world to see! (I will delete this tweet when Denny Hamlin sends me a text or gives me a call directly to ask why this is happening.)

Hamlin countered the head of the organization that controls 11 tracks in US by reminding him of the poor record they have in repaving the tracks and how they have ruined tracks. When Smith again retaliated with mocking him for lack of championships, Hamlin took the savage root and called him out for not taking well care of what his father has built.

Heres your tip. Let someone else run your business before you blow everything your dad gave you.

After some time most probably due to PR reasons Smith deleted all the posts he made on social media. While Hamlin hasn’t done anything yet and doesn’t seem to bother about voicing his opinions.

Denny Hamlin trolling his haters after his win in Richmond

The race in Richmond was filled with controversies even after the chequered flag fell. One such controversy was Hamlin’s questionable ‘jump-start’, which helped the 43-year-old win his second race of the season. However, the veteran humorously trolled his haters on the occasion of April Fools.

The No.11 driver took up on X and shared that after contemplating whether he had jumped the restart at Richmond, concluded that he was at fault for the same. However, it was a prank and Hamlin soon iterated the fact that it was April 1st and it was April Fools!

After much consideration, talks with the team and dissecting the SMT data, it is clear that I jumped the start. Because of that, I've decided to do the right thing and… wish you a happy April Fools Day!

Despite the controversies looming around the field, Hamlin clinched his second win of the season and became the second driver after William Byron. Moreover, the short-track acer would be quite happy for his chances this weekend in Virginia and considering moving to the top of the championship ladder soon.
