Joe Gibbs Racing No:11 Toyota Camry driver Denny Hamlin is one of the Business savvy drivers in the grid. The veteran co-owns NASCAR Cup series outfit 23XI Racing with NBA legend Michael Jordan. The FedEx-sponsored driver plans to expand his business portfolio by purchasing a professional Pickleball franchise.
In vented in 1965, Pickleball is an Indore paddle and ball game that has similarities with Tennis and Badminton. Just like the other two racket sports, it can be played as a singles or doubles game. The Major League Pickleball, the national level championship of the International Federation of Pickleball, is one of the fastest-growing sporting events in the US. That has gathered interest from multiple to own teams in the league.
Hamlin is planning to purchase a team as he is fascinated by the sport. He said, “I actually have been looking to purchase a stake in one of the professional teams. It’s really kind of exciting from my standpoint. It’s like tennis, only it’s better for my shoulders. Anything better on my joints is a little bit better, and I appreciate it,“.
He also pointed out that he and his friends play the game in the winter when they can’t golf. Hamlin said, “It’s fun. All my golfing buddies, we really can’t golf in the wintertime. It’s great for us to be able to do it indoors, which is a blast. We love doing it. We do it at least once a week,”.
Denny Hamlin is one of the prominent athletes planning to buy or has already brought a stake in one of the teams. Super Bowl-winning Quarter Back Patrick Mahomes and NBA superstar Kevin Durant already own the MLP teams. Celebrities like Justin Verlander, Mark Cuban, Eva Longoria, and Kate Upton own MLP franchises.

23XI Racing is expected to produce impressive runs in 2023 with the line-up of Bubba Wallace and Tyler Reddick. Veteran Kurt Busch, who is sidelined with a concussion, will drive part-time with the team this season while also serving as team mentor. Wallace and Busch scored a combined two wins in 2022 and produced consistent runs in the second half of the season. Busch’s replacement Ty Gibbs also had some solid runs after taking over the team after the veteran crash.
Both the No:23 and No:45 teams are expected to at least reach the playoffs in 2023. Hamlin must ensure Wallace is set to score a regular season win and secure the playoff spot for the first time in his Cup career. The boss is also tasked with ensuring Reddick, who joined the team from RCR, has a solid team debut year and back-to-back playoff entries.
Denny Hamlin must also focus on his No:11 JGR team as he continues his chases first-ever Cup title. He might also have to work on his sponsorship deal with FedEx as the firm is introducing budgetary restrictions due to recent financial struggles.
