The 2023 NASCAR Truck Series finale at Phoenix Raceway was undoubtedly one of the worst crowings of a champion in the sport’s history. It was a wreck and caution-ridden race that featured everything from massive blunders to retaliations. The Cup series drivers on the top of the food chain didn’t hesitate to call out the poor product.

The embarrassing highlight of the day was the fight between two young championship-4 drivers. Carson Hocevar and Corey Heim. Till the final start of the race, the incident that occurred at the track was justifiable for a Truck race to a certain extent. Still, the Hocevar crashing into Heim with 30 laps left caused a caution soon after the Tricon Garage driver retaliated, causing another caution.

ThorSport Racing’s Ben Rhodes survived the wrecks and claimed his second series championship at the end of the race with 12 cautions and four overtime that lasted over 25 laps. Joe Gibbs Racing’s Denny Hamlin was disappointed with the race product and didn’t hesitate to call out NASCAR for the damaging show.

This is what happens when there’s no rules, no officiating. You get a product like this. “The show” has taken over US Motorsports and why it’s hard to take seriously.

RFK Racings Chris Buescher was more than unimpressed by the race

It wasn’t just Hamlin who expressed his dissatisfaction with the event. RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher also took it to X to express his distaste towards how things turned out. He later also slammed Heim and Hocevar for their actions.

Anyways. The old saying of cautions breeding cautions, this is now the championship race we get to watch.

Buescher also called out a fan who argued that the race wasn’t as bad. The fans believed the drama made it more exciting than expected, and if it had gone green flag without cautions, it wouldn’t have been good. Buescher countered the argument by replying:

I didn’t see that happening. Two drivers fighting for a championship with 5 to go were a few TENTHS of a second apart, putting on a good race. Your local state fair has bumper cars you can watch
