Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin recently won the NASCAR Cup Series race at the Richmond Raceway. But the driver’s win was under a lot of scrutiny due to his supposed jump-start during the restart at overtime. Hamlin’s start wasn’t penalized after the race as NASCAR thought it was on the limit.
This has led to a lot of controversy with fans speaking about the obvious nature of the jump-start. Recently, amidst all the talk about Hamlin’s win, the driver took to his X account and spoke about how he won the race because of his pit crew, and not the sudden restart.
The No:11 Toyota Camry driver jokingly also spoke about how he wishes some team would come out with a new paint scheme or something to distract fans from talking about the same incident. Denny Hamlin really seemed to be done speaking about the same restart issue over and over again.
I sure wish someone would come out with a new paint scheme or something. Ain’t y’all tired of talking about the same thing for 48 hours now? Our team won the race because of the pit crew. Not the restart. Y’all just sour. GET OVER IT!Denny Hamlin via X.
Denny Hamlin breaks silence Martin Truex Jr.’s Richmond Antics
Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. had a very rare moment of outburst during the race at Richmond. The driver was on for a possible victory before overtime restart that led to teammate Denny Hamlin leading the race.
The No:19 Camry driver was massively frustrated after losing the lead and Hamlin’s maneuver on him. This led him to slam the door and make contact with Hendrick Motorsport driver Kyle Larson and make contact willingly at the back of Denny Hamlin’s car after the race. After the race, Hamlin spoke about how he empathized with his teammate.
It’s painful. It sucks a** because you do everything right. And then something out of your control takes you out. So, like I said to him, ‘Understandably so.’ You deserve to be upset.Denny Hamlin said.
The 23XI Racing co-owner felt that Truex Jr. was having a brilliant race, and it was fair for him to get upset after things out of his control ruined it for him. Besides that, one thing is for sure, Joe Gibbs must’ve had his hands full during the debriefing after the race with the two drivers.
