The Sportsman Division feature race at the Mobile International Speedway had some massive drama awaiting the fans. Mobile witnessed the low-speed short-track racers going hard at each other and the race leaders taking each other out, approaching the third turn.
The drivers got together at the backstretch with the field in three car fight for the lead. Car number 15, which was running the inside line on the lead, tried to close the gap on the Number 18 car on the outside. This move backfired as he slid to the top and proceeded to go out of the track alongside his rivals.
Once the car came to a halt, drivers got out of their cars, NASCAR-based stock cars, and started quarreling with each other. The emergency response crew and law enforcement officers quickly arrived at the scene and de-escalated the situation, according to the videos shared online. Fortunately, none of the drivers suffered any significant injuries.
The drivers were fighting for reported prize money of $1000, and the estimated cost of the wrecked cars is around $5000. It doesn’t come close to the cost of a modern-day NASCAR stock car. The Sportsman division was created to give budding drivers an opportunity to race cheaply against seasoned short-track veterans.
