“Everything is taken so seriously and out of context,” Michael McDowell on Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson’s Twitter controversy

Michael McDowell who competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series driving the No.34 Ford Mustang for Front Row Motorsports seemed pretty comfortable with staying out of the controversial topic of Denny Hamlin’s supposedly insensitive tweet on Kyle Larson after he sent Kurt Busch and Bubba Wallace into the outside wall during the Geico 500 at Talladega.
Michael McDowell has had a pretty up and down season this year posting three top 10s, one top15, and one DNF with other outings spread across above the P20 mark and managed to achieve a win and 20 top 10s throughout his Cup Series career. He pretty evidently steered clear of the topic to avoid any backlash and that seems quite reasonable given the Hamlin-Larson controversy.
“I don’t know where to go with all of it,” says Michael McDowell on Denny Hamlin’s tweet

When asked about Denny Hamlin’s tweet, McDowell chose to stay out of it by not picking a side and replied by saying that it was one of the reasons he chose to stay away from social media as everything one says is treated with a lot of hypocrisy, and said that you can never know what the person’s true intentions are on social media.
“I don’t know where to go with all of it. That’s kind of why I stay off of social media, to be honest with you. Everything is taken so seriously and out of context, and I think that’s a problem with social media is you don’t know a person’s intention,” said Michael McDowell.
He further added by saying that not knowing the person’s intentions can be harmful to a driver, his team, and everyone in his vicinity, he also added by saying that in a high standard sport like this, one has to be extremely cautious with what they say or do.
“You don’t know what they’re trying to communicate and it’s a dangerous spot for you and your team and all the people around you. Obviously, we’re in a predominant sport, and drivers are held to a high standard and you’ve got to be super careful about everything you say and do,” added Michael McDowell.
“I don’t think it’ll be a huge difference there,” says Michael McDowell when asked about racing the new car at Dover Speedway

When asked about his outing at the Dover International Speedway he said that he probably won’t be able to figure out the difference as he said that the lap time might be similar to that of the previous outing at this track adding that the bigger tire of the NextGen car might assist with more grip with more horsepower and higher downforce, he doesn’t think that it’ll be a vast difference.
“I think lap time will probably be pretty similar to what we’ve seen in the past there. The bigger tire will have a bit more grip, obviously with downforce levels and horsepower, but I think it will actually be pretty close at Dover, I don’t think it’ll be a huge difference there,” added Michael McDowell.
He concluded by saying that he feels that his team isn’t at its prime at the moment but feels like they have all the necessities to achieve that but still haven’t done that yet.
“We’re not there yet, but I feel like we have all the things that we need to get there. We just haven’t gotten there yet,” concluded Michael McDowell.
Michael McDowell currently stands 23rd with 181 points and with still half-season to go will he be able to turn things around for him and his team?
