There are very few drivers in NASCAR history who have an impressive record, like the seven-time Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson. He shares the record with two other legends, Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt. Johnson won five consecutive titles from 2006 to 2010. He has won the prestigious Daytona 500 twice and the iconic Brickyard 400 four times. The California native has 83 Cup wins and 374 top-ten finishes.
Despite all his achievements, Jimmie Johnson was not a unanimous selection for the Hall of Fame. Four Hall of Fame voters decided against qualifying him as a first-ballot Hall of Famer. There has never been a unanimous first-ballot selection in the sport, and after what happened to Johnson, it is unlikely that there will ever be another chance.
NASCAR fans are furious about what happened. They raised their concerns about the voting system and called the sport to remove the ones who “ruined Jimmie Johnson being a unanimous HOF ballot” from the panel. Fans were surprised by the four voting panel members who did not vote for Johnson and questioned how one could not vote for him because of his qualifications.

“Sounds like there are 4 voters that need their voting privileges revoked,” “Kick those four out of the sport,” and “They should be named” were a few comments. NASCAR fans demanded the four names, and a few wanted to hear why they decided not to vote for Jimmie Johnson. Some users felt that “NASCAR has the worst Hall of Fame voting panel in all sports.”
“Looks like we need 4 new voters. This is Baseball HOF voting level of nonsense. The body of work for the career of Jimmie Johnson speaks for itself. If he isn’t HOF-worthy, nobody else on the ballot is either,” was one user’s comment. It is safe to say the fans are unhappy about this decision. After all, it was a chance for Jimmie Johnson to make history in the sport by becoming the first driver to be unanimously voted into the Hall of Fame. Take a look at other reactions below.
Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus have seven Cup titles together. The latter is the second crew chief to reach this mark. Johnson received 93% of the votes, but four did not include him in their ballot. NASCAR fans were confused as Johnson had accomplished everything in the sport. He is considered one of the greatest drivers in motorsports. Hence, it was surprising that it was not a unanimous vote.
