The 2023 NASCAR All-Star Race weekend will be hosted at North Wilkesboro Speedway and marks the return of the iconic short track that was once abandoned. Wilkesboro finally got into the Cup Schedule for the 2023 season following the valiant effort from Dale Earnhardt Jr. and other prominent NASCAR names.
NASCAR could have given fans a great show by allowing seven times Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson to participate in the race to make the tracks return more iconic. Johnson returns to the Cup series as co-owner and part-time driver of LEGACY MC. He has already started two races in the championship, driving the No:84 Chevy.
NASCAR had to make some tweaks to the current regulations in order for Johnson to be eligible to race in the series. The current regulations say that a driver who won a point-paying race the previous year or a former Champion is eligible for the race. There is one catch, though he should be driving full-time in the series. If the sporting body had suspended that rule or made a tweak, the legendary Hendrick Motorsports driver would race in the series.
Jimmie Johnson wasn’t open about his intention to race in the event and never gave a clear statement on if he would drive given a chance. But yet, fans expected the sporting body to make at least a small change for one of the greatest drives ever.

Fans had a mixed reaction to the news of Jimmie Johnson’s absence. The NASCAR community feels sad about the decision as they wanted to see the veteran in action. On the other hand, some fans were not expecting the JJ to make the race entry as he already has announced his 2023 Cup schedule.
