Team Penske Racing No:2 Ford Mustang driver Austin Cindric has extended his contract and confirmed the news ahead of the ROVAL post-season race.  He had an impressive 2022 season that saw him securing the Daytona 500 win and ending last year as the rookie of the season.

He told the reporter on Saturday at ROVAL that he is focused big time on the 2024 season after the disappointing run this year. Cindric is concerned that the changes they made after the regular season will enable him to hit the ground running once the third season of his Cup career starts. He is entirely focused on using the Penske Racing opportunity to the fullest.

“I’m focused on next year big time. With the changes that we made after the regular season and all that, yeah, pretty focused on hitting the ground running, using these next couple of weeks to really take advantage of that opportunity. Driving for Roger, driving the 2 car, that’s a big deal. That’s a big opportunity. I don’t see myself getting too many other opportunities like that in my racing career,” Cindric said as reported by NASCAR.com.

The 2023 season has been a massive disappointment for Cindric as he failed to emulate his teammates and make it to the playoffs. From 31 races this season, he has secured just a sole top-5 finish and four top-10s. He finished 25 or worse in 18 races this season and is currently P23 in the championship table.

The contract extension created a stir on social media as fans had a mixed set of reactions to the news. Some fans were happy for the rookie as he got the chance to prove himself worthy of the seat after a disappointing season.

At the same time, there was another set of fans who were angry at Penske as they believed Cindric got an extension just because his father is a senior official of Roger Penske’s racing empire. Fans accuse the team of nepotism and bias.
