Tony Stewart
NASCAR has named Stewart Hass Racing co-owner and three times Cup series champion Tony Stewart to the list of 75 greatest NASCAR drivers of all time as part of the 75th anniversary of the sport. He is one of the 25 drivers that will join the 50 greatest drivers of all time from 1998. 50 drivers were named 25 years ago as part of NASCAR‘s golden anniversary. He is the first of 25 to be named.
Stewart, without a doubt, is one of the most deserving candidates for the honor. The Cup champion had also won the IndyCar series before making it into the Cup series, and he has won every crown jewel race in the Cup other than the Daytona 500. He has scored 49 Cup race wins and 308 top 10s from 618 starts. In the Xfinity series, he had scored 11 wins and 41 top 10s from 94 starts. He also has won two Truck races as well in his career.
The veteran who now races for his own team in the drag races and SRX raced for two top-tier Cup teams and three different manufacturers in his career and won at least a race with all of them. He won his first two championships with Joe Gibbs Racing before joining SHR as owner-driver. He owns a championship as a driver and later as a team owner in the series. He retired in 2016 after missing the first half of the season due to an injury.
Alongside his Cup exploits, he has won the 1995 USAC Triple Crown Champion, 1994 USAC National Midget Series, 2006 IROC championship, 2021 SRX Series, and two Chilli Bowl nationals. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall Of fame in 2020 and also is an inductee in the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame (2001), USAC Hall of Fame (2016), Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame (2018), Motorsports Hall of Fame of America (2019) and National Sprint Car Hall of Fame (2022).
