Bubba Wallace after Talladega last lap crash

Bubba Wallace had a solid race day at Talladega until the final lap disaster. The 23XI Racing driver was all set to score his third career win and first win of the season at Alabama. But as always, superspeedways often aren’t kind to the race leader in the final laps, and Wallace was spun by his close friend Ryan Blaney in the final lap of the race.

The No:23 Camry is to blame for the spin that resulted in a multicar crash and caution, which earned Kyle Busch his second cup win of the season. Wallace, who got the lead from Busch in the final lap, was drafting with Ryan Blaney behind him. He made a move to bloke the No:12 Penske, which would have easily outpaced him.

Unfortunately, it was too late to bloke Blaney’s run, and the Mustang had no option but to spin him. This ruined the chance to score a win for both Wallace and Blaney. Both are enduring a winless streak, with Blaney going winless all of 2022. In their respective post-race interviews, the drivers acknowledged that blocking was the right move from the No:23; but it was mistimed and miscalculated.

So that was our best, by far, plate race that we’ve ever done, so hat’s off to the No. 23 group, Freddie, on top of the roof. Just a great day for us, just a crap result, so…hate it. I caused that one, and man, I just thought it’d play out a little bit different —not getting wrecked, but I thought the move would happen to come off through the trioval,” Wallace said after the race.

He later took it to Twitter and claimed that this was his best-ever run in superspeedway. The claim can be disputed, considering he has finished P2 in Daytona 500 twice and has always been a factor s Superspeedways. He also shared his hope that a win isn’t far for the No:23 team. Wallace wrote, “Yesterday was our best speedway performance to date; hard to hang your head on days like that. Really proud of this team. Our day is coming…,”.

Fans were quick to respond to the No:23 driver. They told him to keep his chin up as with the fastest car, 23XI, giving him a win isn’t far. Few added that Wallace needs to work on his execution on track, pointing at the late bloke. There were also fans who mocked the driver for the poor finish to the day, as always.
