Former Hollywood child superstar turned stock car racing driver Frankie Muniz has admitted that his ultimate goal in NASCAR is to make it to the top and race in the Cup series. From being overlooked as a celebrity chasing clout to becoming an actual contender in the ARCA Mendes Series, the Malcolm in the Middle star has long been 37 in the racing world.
In an exclusive interview with the Forbs, Muenz has revealed that just like every other rookie in his championship, his dream is to make it to the Cup series one day. But unlike his young counterparts, he has to fast-track his career. He plans to do this by making it to the Xfinity and Truck series, NASCAR’s second and third-tier racing series’ next season.
“I know it’s a very lofty goal for me to set, but I want to race in the Cup Series. I’m pretty sure every driver probably says that, but I really do. I’m 37 years old, and I’m getting into the sport of stock car racing. I definitely plan on moving up, and the plan is to move up to Xfinity or the Truck Series next year,” Muniz said.
Muniz currently sits on P2 in the championship but is yet to taste a victory. He has been among the most consistent driver after championship leader Davey Callihan, who has four wins. Muniz’s average finish with the No:30 Rette Jones Racing Ford is 8.9. It would have been much higher if not for his crash last race, which dropped him to P16, his worst finish of the season.

The two biggest challenges awaiting Frankie Muniz in his Xfinity and Truck dream for 2024

Muniz’s journey toward his team has many constraints; the primary one is his association with Ford. He is bound to drive only for Ford teams in the 2024 season in the national series, and the seat availability is very limited to land a full-time ride.
He must join a top team such as ThorSports, Front Raw Racing in Truck, or SHR in the Xfinity. While reaming teams might have opportunities, they can’t promise him race-winning rides. Considering the limelight that will be on the driver, he might find it hard to land a proper sponsor if he is driving for a backmarker team.
The other factor is the age. He will be 38 in 2024, and though it’s not too late for him to get to the national level races, he might hit a dead end quicker than a driver of his same age that has more experience in the grassroots of NASCAR.
Muniz will tackle the first Road Course race of the 2023 ARCA season next race week at Mid-Ohio. He can give a solid fight for the win at the track as he has previous experience racing in SportsCars and Formula BMW Championship there. His Road Course experience from the Champ Car Atlantic series will also be a great asset.
