Bubba Wallace is one of the most famous drivers in the garage and, over the years, has been part of some of the most hilarious moments of the sport. He appeared in the Door Bumper Clear podcast after the 2024 Daytona 500 and shared some of his wild racing stories. His long-time spotter, Freddie Kraft, is one of the co-hosts of the podcast produced by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Dirty Mo Media.

During their conversation, Kraft recalled the time Wallace got disqualified twice on a single race. Kraft said, “This son of a b**** got disqualified twice in the same race, I think twice,” and the 23XI Racing driver detailed what went wrong on the day and how two back-to-back mistakes got him DQ’ed from the session.

Wallace was DQ’ed from the Qualifying after he got out of the car and closed the door of the car, which was against the regulations. Kevin Conway informed him about the wild DQ while he was resting on his bus. The second DQ came after he failed to run the full allotted 40-minute stint in the car in a later session.

So, yeah, I got out qualifying. I pull down pit road, and I'm like, all right, well, we're not going to go any faster. So, I'm getting out. The team's talking to me, and they're like, you know, good job, and I'm getting out there. Talk to him. Shut the door. I get back to the bus, Kevin Conway, well, he calls me, hey, are you around? I'm like, no, what's up? He's like, they're DQing for getting out of the car. I'm like, what? And I come to find out if they DQed us, it wasn't because I got out. It was because I touched the door to close it, touching the car….

Bubba Wallace detailed his mentality for 2024 in the same podcast

One of the big criticisms Wallace has been receiving over the years is that he is too hard on himself and, in an effort to prove others wrong, misses execution. Going into the 2024 season after a career-best year he had in 2023, he has a different perspective.

Wallace pointed out that other than proving people wrong, his goal for the 2024 season is to be the better version of himself and enjoy the experience. Kraft, who was listening to Wallace, admitted that it was the best mentality he had seen Wallace in a long time.

Confidence coming off last year. And for the last three years, I've been racing to prove you wrong, prove you wrong, prove you wrong, prove people over here wrong. Go out, and because you know how to race.
Wallace said.
