Legendary NASCAR Crew Chief turned race analyst Steve Letarte has given his brutally honest opinion about Bubba Wallace’s Road course racing skills. The 23XI Racing driver has never fared in Road Course races and is one of the few drivers in top machinery the racing community rules out from the conversation about potential winners in such races.

While talking about the chance of the TRD driver winning the race in NASCAR’s Street course Debut in Chicago. Letarte was brutally honest about it and pointed out that the two times Cup race winner hasn’t proven yet that he has the necessary skills to secure a win in such tracks.

My man can’t keep it in between the navigational beacons on an open-air road course. So when we street course it down, ain’t happening… Like what Bubba is doing for the sport is amazing, but this isn’t a rah-rah podcast. This is the betting podcast, and I am telling you, this is a fade Bubba,” Letarte said in his betting podcast in Dirty Mo Media.

The race went just like Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordan’s crew chief predicted. Wallace finished outside the top 30 after a late race crash involving 2023 Daytona 500 winner Ricky Stenhouse Jr. The 23XI Racing driver now has a handful of races left in the season to secure a win and his maiden playoff entry.

While he failed to produce a solid race, Wallace has proven some points off the track at Chicago. The Toyota driver is NASCAR’s poster for making the sport more welcoming to all demographics, and the Chicago experiment was part of it. Wallace was the face of NASCAR in Chicago as he was the sport’s only black athlete in the top division.

While many in the NASCAR community favor attracting new fans and helping the sport grow, a group of fans is against the efforts. Addressing this group, Wallace said that it is unfortunate that some people are against inclusion. He added that the mission for inclusivity will march forward despite the criticism.

Unfortunately, a lot of people don’t like changes that we’re doing as a sport to tap into different demographics and make the sport more welcoming and inclusive, and that’s on them. They have to live with that. For us, we continue to march forward,” Wallace said.
