NASCAR has a prestigious history that goes back 75 years and has hosted some of the biggest car manufacturers in the sport’s history. Over the years, 29 constructors or Original Engine Manufacturers have entered the sport. But only 16 of the OEMs were able to secure a race win in the premier stock car racing series.
The list of OEMs to race in NASCAR includes Ford, Chevrolet, Aston Martin, Porsche, and Toyota. Leesser-known vehicle manufacturers such as Henry, MG, and Willy’s have also raced in the sport. Right now, there are three manufacturers in the sport, American company Ford and Chevy alongside Japanese industry giant Toyota.

NASCAR has been looking for a fourth OEM for a long time and according to the latest reports from Sports Business Journal, the sport has been for a long-time in conversation with Honda over a potential NASCAR entry. Honda is already racing in premier series like Formula One and NASCAR would be a good investment for them.
Dodge left the sport in 2012, though it held talks about re-entering around 2022. NASCAR has also been chasing Honda for years and remains in discussions with the automaker, according to a person familiar with the matter.Adam Stern reported via SBJ.
NASCAR COO claims the talks over new OEM entry are heating up
The COO of NASCAR, Steve O’Donnell, recently revealed the discussions with OEMs are heating up and are forward-thinking. He also pointed out that the sanctioning bodies’ current partners are open to having a new manufacturer racing for them.

The great thing is you talk about our current partners, they’ve been tremendous not only with current technology in the car but being very open to new technology whether it be a different engine architecture or what we race, so those discussions are always forward-thinking … and our current partners are very open to new OEMs coming in and open to having conversations about that possibility.Steve O’Donnell said.
Having a fourth OEM entering the sport would be massive for the sport and the fans as well, as it can bring in more competition to the sport. It would be great marketing for the manufacturer as well, as NASCAR has long been a source of new customers for the companies.
