‘I am ecstatic and ready to go,’ NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson is all set for his Indy 500 debut with Chip Ganassi Racing

NASCAR legend Jimmie Johnson is all set to make his Indy 500 debut on May 29 at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The record-tying 7 times NASCAR Cup Series winner with Hendrick Motorsport in their No:48 car completed his last full-time season in the Cup series in 2020 as he set out to pursue his open-wheel racing dream.

The 46 years old will have his “Childhood dream” come to life this may as he will contest in the Indy 500 one of the most iconic open-wheel racing in the US as well as the world in the No. 48 car for Chip Ganassi Racing. “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” in his own words will be one of the greatest challenges the veteran in this car Indy 500 rookie will face in his career.

The path to the Indy 500 wasn’t at all easy for the champion as he had to remove the oval racing from his schedule due to the fact that his wife didn’t want to see him race in the highly unsafe open-wheel oval race. He had to convince his wife, himself, and the sponsors on many things before getting all set to race in the Indianapolis circuit.

Jimmie Johnson added acknowledged that he feels ecstatic and ready to go about the Indy 500 and went on to explain the things he had gone through last year at the same time to make this dream a reality. He said that he was of the opinion that his dreams will never be a reality but after last year’s Indy 500 he started the process he needed to get to racing in both the team shop and his home. He reiterated that looking back to 12 months he had no chance of making it to Indy.

“I am ecstatic and ready to go,” Jimmie Johnson said.

“I think even 12 months ago today, I didn’t think it was possible.  After the race, I started the process I needed to do at home, and within the shop, and with Tony (Kanaan), and it still took months and months and months to get it right. But when I look back at just 12 months ago, there was no chance of this happening,” Jimmie Johnson added.

Jimmie Johnson claimed he feels pretty much like home in Indy as he has driven so laps around the track both in the simulator and in his mind saying  “I’ve run so many laps in the SIM, driven so many laps in my head, I was up early and ready to get after it. I feel pretty at home here,”.
