Denny Hamlin who drives the No.11 Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing also co-owning 23X1 Racing competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series found himself short of a wheel as he tries to exit the pit road, but managed to win Stage 1 and then got hit by Cody Ware dropping him from 4th to 21st at the end of Stage 2.
Denny Hamlin has had a tough start this season with four DNFs and not a single outing placing below P10, his season-best was a win during the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway, and all his other races were over P15.
He managed to stay ahead of everyone for 55 laps and added another 12 laps on Monday following the postponement of the race due to untimely weather conditions, Hamlin placed 21st after his run at the DuraMAX Drydene 400 at the Dover International Speedway.
“Everybody showed a lot of speed today,” said Denny Hamlin’s crew chief after the caution
Denny Hamlin has had a rather disheartening run at Dover this week as he lost his front-left tire due to a loose lug nut and he was pretty upset with his crew and went on to say that he couldn’t believe it had happened. His crew chief Chris Gabehart on the radio said that he lost a lug nut and it wasn’t discovered until it was too late.
“I just can’t believe this, man,” said Denny Hamlin.
“A lug nut came out of the gun, and we did not know it until it was too late, obviously,” said Chris Gabehart, Hamlin’s crew chief.
Hamlin’s crew chief went on to say following his mishap with Cody Ware which dropped him from 4th to 21st that all the racers were quick out there and that they’re well aware of their potential out there and urged him to buckle up for the next outing at Darlington Raceway.
“Everybody showed a lot of speed today,” “This is what we’re capable of. We know what we’ve got. Get ready to go at the next one,” concluded Hamlin’s crew chief, Chris Gabehart.
As a result of the wheel coming off, Chris Gabehart and two crew members will face suspension as per the rules and regulations of NASCAR.
Denny Hamlin currently stands 23rd with 204 points on the table and will he be able to deliver a comeback this season for his fans?
