“I think it’s just kind of an anomaly” William Byron on “super talented” Tyler Reddick’s 23×1 move
Tyler Reddick and William Byron
The NASCAR community was in utter shock when Denny Hamlin, the co-owner of 23X1 Racing, announced that Tyler Reddick will leave RCR at the end of 2023 to join them in the 2024 season. The so early announcement surprised everyone including the likes of William Byron, the Hendrick Motorsports youngster who is among the drivers fighting for the cup series championship this year.
Though a move away from Richard Childress Racing, if the team failed to cater to Reddick with a high-performing car in accordance with his potential, was always predicted for a potential superstar like Reddick, he was less expected to join a Toyota outfit, and less likely so with 23X1 Racing. The move has arced some eyebrows at the same time and also exhibits the future 23×1 has envisioned for themselves in the cup series.

The No:24 HMS driver acknowledged that he finds the Tyler Reddick move kind of an anomaly and added that Reddick being super talented has the leverage when it comes to winning races or choosing the team where he wants to be. He added that he doesn’t think this will become a common practice in the future as it happened with Kevin Harvick announcing he moved away from RCR a season early in 2012, as he called it just a way it worked in that situation.
“I think it’s just kind of an anomaly. Tyler (Reddick) is obviously super talented and I think he has a lot of leverage with winning and things like that. But I don’t know. I don’t think that will be common. It happened with Kevin (Harvick) way back before I was racing, but watched it happen. I just think it’s the way it worked out with that situation,” says William Byron.
“Hampshire is a place that I’ve wanted to work at and get better” William Byron on his Loudon outing
William Byron went on to talk about his thoughts on the coming cup race for him at New Hampshire saying it’s a track he has figured out before coming into the cup series but points out that he now realizes that he had all those good outings due to the good car he had. He pointed out that Loudon is a place where he wanted to get the better of and expects that to happen in the coming race weekend.
“I thought I had it figured out before I got to the Cup Series and I realized I just had really good cars to get me to this point. New Hampshire is a place that I’ve wanted to work at and get better, and this is a perfect opportunity this weekend to hopefully improve,” William Byron said.
William Byron went on to say that e hopes to improve his racing product there at the track with his Xfinity series outing as the power levels and downforce Xfinity cars offer at the tacks isn’t that different since it’s a short track. He added that he hopes to get a better run at the Xfinity race as he did in Texas Motor Speedway last time around where he finished P2.
“Hopefully, it translates to the Cup side. The Xfinity car is a little bit different, but the downforce level and the power level are not that different in the fact that it’s short track. It should line up pretty well. I’m excited to get laps in the Xfinity car. We finished second at Texas (Motor Speedway) and hopefully, we can have a little bit better run than that,” William Byron added.
