NASCAR, the premier stock car racing series in the motorsport world is a thing of its own but when comes to the rem of racing it shares all the major aspects of most of the racing series in the world that is the game of money and resources, where it’s hard for the smaller boats to sail much longer. With the new TV deal, with Fox and NBC coming in the way of NASCAR and teams demanding more shares which will help them to be less reliable on sponsorship money had surfaced creating a new “good” headache for NASCAR.

The NASCAR outfit, though has seen the successful implementation of radical changes including the new Kit-Car coming out to make the ownership of the team more financially stable, is still heavily reliant on securing sponsorship deals to keep its operation afloat. This most of the time keeps the team away from doing something creative that can change the technical aspects of the sport.

Dale Earnhardt Jr, the NASCAR Hall of Fame driver, team owner, and sports analyst are one of the most respected and appreciated persons in the racing community, and his words especially the opinions that come out through his podcasts has a huge following. Dale Earnhardt Jr. acknowledged that he would definitely try to find ways that can make the teams less dependent on sponsorship money in ways such as giving them more shares from the streaming revenue though he is less sure about its feasibility.  He pointed out that he will try to work on the physical, Technical, and competition side of NASCAR by reducing the sponsorship dependency.  He added that he will be more open to allowing them to find spaces in the car where they will have creative and design freedom to come up with great ideas which give them advantages.

I would definitely try to find a way to make them less dependent on their sponsorship dollars. So, however, we could do that, I would try to figure it out — whether it was simply giving them more of the TV money, I don’t know if that’s realistic or not. But I would try to work really hard to make them less dependent on sponsorship dollars,” said Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“And I would probably try to work with them on the physical, technical, and competition sides of the car. I would be more open to allowing them to find spaces in this car where they could get creative and work to design advantages within their own organization in the car,” added Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Jr went on to say that the Next-Gen car is a Kit-Car, which means the parts are purchased from different vendors with the teams having limited or no freedom in making creative changes isn’t that okay with him as he proposes the idea of giving the team more opportunity to come up with individual designs. Dale Earnhardt points out that there will surely be restrictions put on the changes that need to be made to avoid engineers going crazy on those part that is allowed to be modified.

The car is a kit car. They buy the parts from here and there and they put it together and you’re not allowed to really modify anything. I might find some ways to allow a little more creativity back into what the teams can do in-house. And you have to be careful to not turn that into a big spend where the engineers go crazy trying to find how to make that area the best,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. said.

He went on to say that he would have a hard time doing things to the owners other than making their operations more financially stable though he won’t be aiming at making them extremely profitable. He points out that he wants teams to come and race with less monetary loss and added that he is more inclined towards changing the technical aspects of the sports.

I would have a hard time really wanting to do much for the owners outside of trying to make it more financially stable. I’m not trying to make it where it’s extremely profitable. I just want them to be able to come race and not lose a ton of money. But outside of that, if I was in control of NASCAR, I’d be thinking about all kinds of other things to be doing to the sport than messing with owners,” Dale Earnhardt Jr. explained.
