NASCAR drivers and crews have fallen prey to the stringent norms of the NASCAR rule books yet again during last week’s Cup Series and Xfinity Series races hosted during the 11th round of outings this season at the Dover International Speedway.

Several drivers, crew chiefs, and crew members have faced the penalties as a result of loose tires and tires coming off the car due to improperly fitted lug nuts and other bolts. A total of 8 teams have been penalized this season with the sole reason being loose wheels.

Which NASCAR teams have faced penalties following the race at Dover?

The DuraMAX Drydene 400 at Dover International Speedway was a pretty annoying race for the drivers and teams as untimely weather had a toll on the morale of the drivers having to deal with the delay of the race and losing wheels was another issue many two drivers faced in the race at Dover.

Joe Gibbs Racing’s No.11 driver Denny Hamlin lost a tire even before coming out of the pit road, this happened as a consequence of a loosely fitted central lug nut resulting in a loss of his position in the race and the suspension of his crew chief, Chris Gabehart, and crew members, Derrell Edwards and Blake Houston for the next four Cup Races.

Another driver was A.J. Allmendinger of Kaulig Racing who lost his wheel too midway through the race as it went rolling down the track and all other racers kept dodging it. Crew chief, Matt Swiderski, and crew members, Keiston France and Jonathan Willard have been suspended for the next four races.

Sam Mayer of JR Motorsports was the driver who lost a wheel in the Xfinity Series race on Saturday resulting in the suspension of his crew chief, Taylor Moyer, and crew members, Orane Ossowski and Markus Pierce-Brewster for the next four races.

NASCAR also announced the perpetual suspension of Jason Houghtaling, crew chief of Xfinity Series racer Jesse Iwuji for making a public statement that in any way demeans any individual of their race, color, creed, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, religion, age or physical disability. Following the suspension, he parted ways with Jesse Iwuji’s team.

With many crew chiefs and members being suspended, fans are beginning to question the severity of the stringent rules and regulations of NASCAR.
