2021 NASCAR Cup series champion Kyle Larson is set to make his Indianapolis 500 next season with Arrow McLaren. He will be the first driver wince, Kurt Busch, in 2016 to pull off the double duty as he will be driving in the Coco Cola 600 straight after the event at Indy. On October 12, he completed the first stage of the Indy 500 rookie orientation.

He was trained by none other than the 2004 IndyCar champion Tony Kanaan, who is the sporting director of Arrow McLaren. He drove the No:6 Machinery around the 2.5-mile track at the Brickyard, completing for 72 laps. He clocked in the fastest lap of 219.3mph, and the 2013 Indy 500 was more than impressed by his student.

Tony Kanaan admits he was nervous about the test with Kyle Larson

The Champion open-wheel racer pointed out that he woke up in the morning for the test. He was nervous despite knowing that having a superstar would make his life a racer. Kanaan admitted that there was no reason for him to be nervous. He admitted that winning the 24 Hours of Daytona with Larson in the past helped them build better chemistry on the test day.

It makes my life easier when you have a superstar, so it makes me look good. I woke up this morning, I was actually nervous.  I didn’t know why.  There’s no reason for me to be. Yeah, awesome day,” Kanaan said (H&T: RACER).

I think the good thing is, Kyle and I were teammates back in the day; we won the 24 Hours of Daytona together, so we knew each other.  We fit in each other’s seat.  It was seamless. I think we did what we were supposed to do today,” he added.
