“It came across totally wrong. I apologize,” Denny Hamlin to face sensitivity training after tweeting an insensitive meme on Kyle Larson
Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson
Denny Hamlin who races the No.11 Toyota Camry competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing while also co-owning the 23X1 Racing team made an inconsiderate meme on Twitter following the events of the Talladega crash involving Kyle Larson, Kurt Busch, and Bubba Wallace.
Denny Hamlin was pretty upset with fellow racer Kyle Larson’s move in the final moments of the Geico 500 which led to a mishap between Kurt Busch and his 23X1 Racing teammate Bubba Wallace, to which Hamlin tweeted a meme from the TV show ‘The Family Guy’ of an Asian female driving with Larson’s name overlaying on her.
Denny Hamlin was immediately called out by multiple fans for his supposedly racist tweet which he agreed that he didn’t mean any harm though considering the fact that Kyle Larson is part Asian with his mother being a Japanese-American.
“I took down a post I made earlier today,” tweeted Denny Hamlin after taking down the illogical meme
Denny Hamlin soon took down the post from his Twitter wall and later apologizingly tweeted saying that he deleted the meme as it was a bad one and that he agreed it was a bad one and that he was sorry.
“I took down a post I made earlier today after reading some of the comments. It was a poor choice of memes and I saw how it was offensive. It came across totally wrong. I apologize,” tweeted Denny Hamlin.
Hamlin himself drives a Toyota Camry along with Bubba Wallace, the automaker also tweeted in response to this saying that they’ve contacted Hamlin about the tweet and will stand with NASCAR with its sensitivity training requirement issue imposed on Hamlin.
“We have spoken with Denny Hamlin regarding his tweet from yesterday, Toyota supports NASCAR’s decision to mandate sensitivity training for Denny and we will all move forward together,” tweeted the Japanese Automaker.
Given the friendship between Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson, Hamlin’s tweet doesn’t seem to be intended to hurt Larson.
