‘It might be one of the craziest wins I’ve ever had,’ AJ Allmendinger is ecstatic about his Portland Raceway Xfinity win after surviving a chaotic 75 laps

The NASCAR Xfinity Series race went into Portland International Raceway this weekend for the second road course race of the Xfinity season. The race was chaotic from the beginning with the racing and at the final restart, only 21 of the initial 38 cars that entered made it there for the run at a victory.
40-years old veteran AJ Allmendinger has been one of the most consistent drivers of the 2022 season and when it comes to road courses, he is the king. The veteran showcased exactly that on the Saturday race at Portland. He literally had to climb his way from the rear to the top leading only six laps in the whole race to secure the win.
The three-staged race started harsh for AJ as he had struggled from the beginning and even the yellow flag on the track wasn’t in any way helping the incidents continue. The veteran had to overcome nearly half a dozen of track incidents while Ty Gibbs taking out some of his fellow’s computers also turned out to be good for him.
At the checkered flag, the veteran bested Myatt Snider by 2.879s to win his second Xfinity race of the season the other one being the COTA Xfinity race, also a road course that also has a Cup race win of him in the past. RCR driver Austin Hill occupied the P3 ahead of the JR Motorsport duo of Josh Berry and Justin Allgaier at P4 and 5 respectively.
Find out what AJ Allmendinger had to say about his chaotic win
AJ Allmendinger, the No. 16 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet driver, acknowledged that the Portland win is one of his craziest victories ever as he is in unbelief about his incredible comeback from the bottom saying “It might be one of the craziest wins I’ve ever had…Man, I cannot believe this. I crashed before it went green,’’.
AJ Allmendinger went on to say that he has made so many mistakes throughout the race trying so hard and added that he was putting so much pressure on himself to go for the win as he himself and everyone else around him was expecting him to give it all and go for the win. He acknowledged his victory saying ‘what a win’.
“I was making so many mistakes; trying so hard. I put so much pressure on myself in these races because I know what everyone expects and I know what I expect out of myself, more importantly. But what a win,’’ AJ Allmendinger added.
Myatt Snider who finished second in the race behind AJ acknowledges that the experience the veteran has acquired over the years clearly helped him as he was setting up the corner exits much better than he was doing. He went on to say that it’s so cool to be disappointed about P2 with a team that only has a year and a half of experience with him and shared his happiness about the first stage win and the first top 3 of the car.
“Just A.J.’s experience. I could tell he was setting up those [corner] exits better than I was. To me, that was good hard racing. So cool to be disappointed with second [place] with a team that’s only a year-and-a-half old, and to get my first stage win, and maybe the first top three with this car,’’ says Myatt Snider.
