Aric Almirola who sports the No.10 Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing as a full-time contender in the NASCAR Cup Series is pretty satisfied with his strong finish which was much needed for him and his team after a month of poor finishes, he managed to qualify in the top 10 and started eighth and secured a fifth-place finish in the inaugural Enjoy Illinois 300 at the World Wide Technology Raceway after an intense 300-mile run.
The 38 years old Cuban-American has previously competed at this track way back in 2006,2009 and 2010 in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and he finished in the top 10 all three times and posted his best at 4th place in 2009. Aric Almirola also managed to add some bonus points by being able to finish 6th in Stage 1 and 5th in Stage 2 with this being his second top 5 and fifth top 10 this season with no victory yet.
“Really proud of the effort today,” says a contented Aric Almirola after a hassle-free race at WWTR
Aric Almirola was extremely delighted on earning that 5th place finish and he knew the significance of this race’s performance after his unfortunate time since the last month with zero wins and good races and he was really satisfied with his team’s support throughout the race.
“It was a solid day for us. We really needed that. It kind of turned the last month around. We’ve been running top-10 and finishing 20th or worse the last month-and-a-half. Really proud of the effort today,” said Aric Almirola.
He went to add by saying that his race was pretty clean without being involved in any cautions and was glad he could pull that off staying in the top 5 for most of the race and he showed his gratitude to his crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer, and his whole crew who were with him doing an excellent job to keep him up there and he concluded by saying that he was also almost able to give the guys at the lead a run for their money.
“It was kind of a mistake-free day and ran inside the top-five all day. Drew Blickensderfer, the crew chief, and the guys on the team did a great job. We were just so close to having what we needed to go challenge those guys for the lead,” concluded Aric Almirola.
Aric Almirola stands 11th in the points table ahead of his teammates but will he succeed at acquiring a spot in the playoffs this season?
