Jeff Gordan’s former crew chief predicts retaliation from a “heartbroken” Brandon jones on Ty Gibbs at Phoenix

An impressive rookie season has been a nightmare for JGR Xfinity series driver Ty Gibbs. The No:54 has made many enemies on the track with his aggressive driving. This put him in a situation where even his teammate might not come to aid him in the season finale at Phoenix if it demanded from them.

Gibbs gained a reputation as the entitled rich kid of the Xfinity series with his actions on the track. He doubled down on it last week at Martinsville, where he wrecked his teammate Brandon Jones to secure the win. Jones was in a must-win situation while Gibbs was already in Championship 4. The probability of Jones wrecking Gibbs at Phoenix is high now if JGR fails to negate the beef.

In a podcast conversation with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon’s former crew chief and NBC pundit,  Steve Letarte, revealed why he thinks Brandon Jones will wreck Ty Gibbs in Phoenix. He pointed out that Jones was heartbroken by the incident. Such an emotional state will make people do crazy stuff.

I’m going to tell you that’s when people do crazy stuff. It’s not when you’re mad. It’s when you’re heartbroken. And if he’s heartbroken, if he thought this was his chance, that’s the one. It’s not the ‘he’s on my list.’ He didn’t threaten at all. That’s the one you got to be careful of,” Steve Letarte said.

After Steve Letarte gave his opinion, Podcast hoist Dale Earnhardt Jr. revealed his conversation with his JRM driver after the Martinsville race. He demanded his drivers not to wreck anyone at Phoenix. He wants his drivers to win the championship fair and square and walk out of their holding their heads up.

I will tell you that I talked to my four guys post-Martinsville. And I said, ‘Listen, we’re not dumping anybody this weekend.’ I said, ‘We’re going to try and win that championship.’ We’re damn sure not going to let that 54 win it, but we’ll walk out of there with our heads up,” says Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Dale Jr. doesn’t want to win the championship and is embarrassed about how they secured it. He pointed out that he is not done talking with his team since he got Same Mayer with them, who has a past with Ty Gibbs. Mayer is not in the championship chase, so he has nothing to lose.

We’re not going to win that championship and be embarrassed about how we did it. And I’m not done talking to them. Because I got — Sam’s got nothing to lose, and he doesn’t like the kid anyways,” added Dale Earnhardt Jr.
