The upcoming Chicago street race is Button’s second of three races with Rick Ware Racing this season. The Briton drives the No.15 Ford Mustang for RWR in collaboration with Stewart-Haas Racing.

Jenson Button also competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and drove the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Hendrick Motorsports’ Garage 56 Le Mans program. The former F1 world champion wants to make a name for himself in other racing series. While speaking to the press before NASCAR’s first-ever street course race in Chicago, Button expressed his desire to get Red Bull reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo to race in NASCAR.

Jenson Button was asked how his friends and ex-F1 competitors reacted to him racing in NASCAR. The Briton said they were very supportive and admitted that he wanted to see Daniel Ricciardo in the sport. He stated, “Friends are very supportive, ex-competitors from F1 are very supportive of me racing NASCAR. They’re like, ‘I’d love to give that a go.’ Daniel Ricciardo, I think we all know, is a big fan of NASCAR.”

Jenson Button added, “Maybe we’ll get him [ Daniel Ricciardo] in a car in the next couple of years.” The 43-year-old hopes to pull the Australian driver to NASCAR in the upcoming years. It wouldn’t be new, as plenty of F1 drivers have raced in NASCAR in the past. The perfect example would be Button himself, former Ferrari world champion Kimi Raikkonen, Jim Clark, Daniil Kvyat, and others.

Daniel Ricciardo left McLaren last season and joined his former team Red Bull Racing as a reserve driver for the 2023 season. At the beginning of the year, it was announced that Ford would supply engines to Red Bull for the 2026 F1 season. Things could get interesting for Ricciardo as Ford fields cars in NASCAR. Also, the Australian driver has been a huge fan of the sport.

Daniel Ricciardo has looked up to NASCAR legend and seven times Winston Cup [Now known as Cup Series] champion Dale Earnhardt Sr. This was the reason behind his No.3 racing number. He even drove Dale Earnhardt’s 1984 Chevy at COTA in 2021.

Ford’s success in NASCAR and one foot in Formula 1 could bring Ricciardo into the sport. The Australian himself has expressed his interest in trying stock car racing. Who knows, Jenson Button’s wish for Ricciardo might come to fruition.
