Todd Gilliland wins Knoxville Raceway Truck Race

David Gilliland, former NASCAR driver, and team owner had an amazing Father’s Day gift coming his way at Knoxville Raceway on Saturday as his son and 2022 NASCAR rookie Todd Gilliland won the Truck Series race at the track. The youngster who is a driver for Front Raw Motor Sports in the Cup Series topped the Chart in the Saturday, 150-lap race beating John Hunter Nemechek to the finish line with 0.945 seconds differentiating the two.

David Gilliland had one thing to say to his son as he started the race on the No:7 David Gilliland Racing Ford truck which was  “All I want for Father’s Day is that trophy. We’ll be taking it home on the plane with us,”. The son earned the gift for him during the race hours toping the final 10 laps and the 147th lap restart. The race also marked a historic point in which Todd Gilliland became the 11th different winner in the 11 dirt-track races in the history of the NASCAR Truck Series.

Reacting to his win Todd Gilliland acknowledged that it’s an amazing feeling for him to win at Knoxville. The NASCAR Rookie went on to say that just racing every week is perfect for him though it’s very hard racing for him in Cup Series. He went on to say that when millions of people enquire about what he wants to do in the off-season he said he just wants to race as that’s what he found best for someone young like him. Todd Gilliland added that he wishes every weekend he could get to experience something like this as he thanked everyone that stood him for the win.

Just so amazing, man. The Cup Series is tough. Just racing every single week, I’ve had like a million people ask me, ‘Is this really what you wanna do on your off weekend?’ Absolutely, man. Nothing beats racing. I tell everyone I’m young. I wish I could do this every single weekend of the year,” Todd Gilliland said.

Just so happy for [crew chief] Seth Smith, my whole team, David Gilliland Racing, Ford, especially…Really, really cool. Just so thankful. I love the Truck Series. I ran here forever, it felt like, so to be able to come back and to get one, man, it’s so special,” Todd Gilliland added.

Todd Gilliland went on to say that he had an amazing truck the DGR prepared for him and added that it’s a really good feeling for him to get a win in the No:17 truck as it has been among the fastest ones on the grid throughout this season saying “I just had an amazing truck. These [David Gilliland Racing] guys prepared me a really good one. We got fitted in the seat on Tuesday afternoon. Just an amazing truck. These guys work so hard. The No. 17 truck’s been really fast a lot this year, so finally to get it a win,”.
