The No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson wants the Australian Supercars legend Shane van Gisbergen to move straight to the NASCAR Cup series in 2024. Larson believes the Chicago Street race winner is ready for the challenge in the oval. All eyes were on van Gisbergen after his iconic win in his NASCAR debut. Since then, there has been a development, as the Kiwi expressed interest in moving to stock car racing.
Kyle Larson had some interesting advice on how van Gisbergen should enter the Cup Series next season. He is confident that the 34-year-old will master oval racing quickly thanks to his driving skills. Hence, Larson wants van Gisbergen to be thrown to the wolves. He believes the Chicago star will figure it out in the process, as he has a strong racing background.
The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is quoted by Speedcafe, “What’s the point? Just throw him [van Gisbergen] in the Cup Series. He’s good enough to figure it out, so what’s the point in the Xfinity Series if the financials make sense? Throw him to the wolves, and he’s going to figure it out. He should be fine.” Larson believes Shane van Gisbergen’s lack of oval experience should not be an issue.
Kyle Larson claims Shane van Gisbergen might find Cup racing easy

Larson added, “He is a driver, even with mostly a road racing background, this shouldn’t take him too long to figure out. It might be simpler to him, compared to what he is used to, so he’s going to be pretty good.” It is safe to say that the Hendrick Motorsports driver is confident about van Gisbergen’s driving skills.
Kyle Larsson is excited to race drivers from different backgrounds and looks forward to the opportunity. He wants to see how he fares against them and discover what they do behind the wheel. He believes it will be fun. That said, Larson praised van Gisbergen for his exceptional driving and footwork in Chicago. Hence, he thinks the Kiwi should be fast-tracked to the 2024 NASCAR Cup season.
Though the three-time Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen wants to leave for NASCAR in 2024, he might not compete as a full-time driver. Van Gisbergen will make his Truck Series debut at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Friday. It will be his first NASCAR oval start. And on the weekend, he will make his second Cup start of his career at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It remains to be seen how he will perform in the upcoming races. And the question is will he prove Kyle Larson right?
