Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Larson has pointed out that the main priority of him following the takeover of Tony Stewart’s sprint car racing series is to make the sport better. Larson, who already owns the High Limit Racing series with his brother-in-law Brad Sweet, announced the takeover of the All-Star Circuit of Champions last week.
It will make Larson one of the prominent players in the division, and with his expertise and fame, he has the opportunity to make it the biggest ever. For Larson, it’s not just about being a racing series owner; he seeks tough challenges while running in the championship. One way he could achieve this target is to increase the event’s prize pool.
When asked to explain his plans for ASCC after the takeover, Larson pointed out that the race purse will be made better and more lucrative for the teams to make the sport better. He also added that he and his partner at High Limit are ready to take the risk of having a large schedule for the upcoming season.
I do know I want the best for the sport just like we all do. Our goal is to definitely raise the purses. Any time you buy something, you want to make it better or more lucrative for the teams involved. That is our goal. There is more risk on our end from a much larger schedule that we will hopefully have.
Kyle Larson told Forbs.
Kyle Larson won’t change the mid-week race schedule
Larson also confirmed that he wouldn’t change the mid-week schedule currently used by the series. There are primarily two reasons for him to do that. The first is the mid-week schedule gets more fan engagement and viewership. His second reason is a bit personal, as keeping the current timing also helps him to race.
Whatever our full schedule ends up being, the priority of ours’ is we want to maintain the mid-week races. The more midweek races we have, the more I opportunity I have to race. And the viewership of the midweek stuff has been really good. That is a priority of ours.
Larson right now is focused on securing his second Cup title win this Sunday at Phoenix. He will go against teammates Willaim Byron, Ryan Blaney, and Christopher Bell. The experience of winning the race gives him an edge over his rivals.
