Former NASCAR driver Kyle Petty has harsh words about Denny Hamlin after the Joe Gibbs Racing driver walled Kyle Larson to secure the win at Pocono. In the post-race analysis of the incident, Petty, an NBC analyst, pointed out that he doesn’t appreciate the 50th career Cup win Hamlin has secured at Pocono.
Hamlin has not just made one milestone at Pocono. It was the 600th NASCAR race win of Toyota Racing Development. The 23XI Racing co-owner also became the winningest Cup driver in the tricky triangle. It was his seventh career win there at the track. Hamlin also became the 13th driver in the all-time winner’s list, surpassing Tony Stewart with 49.
Denny Hamlin, after Pocono, is tied with Ned Jarret and Junior Johnson in the all-time win list. He is now five wins away from surpassing Petty’s grandfather Lee Petty (54 wins). At the same time, Kyle Petty appreciates Hamlin’s racing prowess; he isn’t a fan of the JGR drivers supposed ‘win at any cost attitude’. He pointed out that he doesn’t appreciate Hamlin’s 50 wins because he doesn’t appreciate how he cleared the race leader for the win.
“I enjoyed every lap – I love the strategy, I loved everything about it. The ending, I don’t appreciate. I don’t appreciate even 50 wins. What he’s done, I don’t appreciate that because we saw this same move last year, and that’s just my opinion,” Kyle Petty told NBC.

Denny Hamlin doesn’t show remorse because he believes he is always right, claims Kyle Petty

After the controversial finish, which is never a new thing in NASCAR, Hamlin didn’t show any remorse and insisted that he was innocent. This behavior didn’t sit well with Kyle Petty, as he claimed earlier in the show that Hamlin believes he is always right, and that’s why he isn’t showing any remorse.
“People that are always right don’t have remorse. They just go ahead and live their life in their world and that’s what Denny does, and that’s fine because he is an incredible race car driver. He’s able to take that and put it somewhere in its win at all cost and we saw it here,” Petty said.
While Kyle Petty is entitled to his opinions, it is important to mention that the duo has a past that isn’t a good memory for both. In 2007 when Hamlin was in his second season in the Cup series, the duo clashed In Dover.
The incident was prompted after the No:11 Toyota ran into the back of Petty’s lapped car. Petty heavily criticized the young Hamlin for his actions and even went to the extent where he reached into Hamlin in the car and slapped him. The JGR driver was wearing his helmet, though.
