Former NASCAR driver and NBC analyst Kyle Petty didn’t mince his words on his feelings about Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin on his controversial Pocono win. Hamlin walled Kyle Larson on the final restart to secure the win at Pocono, which also marked his 50th Cup career win. Both drivers had different opinions on the incident.

Kyle Larson claimed that he was raced wrong, and it wasn’t what he expected from his friend Hamlin. The Toyota driver, on the other hand, insisted that he didn’t do anything wrong and blamed the Next-Gen car aero issue for the incident. Hamlin’s first win came by similar hard racing with Larson in Kansas.

Kyle Petty, while talking about the incident in NBC’s post-race show, pointed out that Hamlin was wrong and his playing the victim wasn’t right. He said, “Denny can’t be the victim! We played his Radio, he was the victim, and he puts himself in the victim position. You’re not the victim here, Denny Hamlin.

He added that Larson knew Hamlin would not be apologetic about the incident. Petty said,And when I looked at this one, we heard what Kyle Larson said.  He said, ‘Denny’s always right. All his buddies know it.’ And he laughed about it because he knows Denny won’t apologize for this.”

NASCAR legend Richard Petty’s son was surprised to see how Larson reacted to the incident. He pointed at the reaction difference between Larson, who came to Kansas, and this Sunday. Larson seemed to be madder than he was back then.

I think the one point that stood out to me, you never, never see Kyle Larson that mad. He can blow off things that happen to him and say, ‘Hey, it’s racing. It happens.’ He did not do that today against one of his better friends in the garage area Denny Hamlin,” said Petty.

While the issues might have cast some shade on the race, at the end of the day, NASCAR was the biggest winner last Sunday. The sport has been witnessing impressive races in the last couple of months, and such heated moments during and after the race is giving them the exposure and storyline to have another impressive show for fans next week.
