Toyota Owner’s 400 at Martinsville brought out the worst in Martin Truex Jr. The 2017 Cup champion lost the event to his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin in overtime. He was furious about the loss as since he has led over 200 laps and was close to securing his first victory of 2024, when NASCAR called caution on lap 399.

Martin Truex Jr. didn’t mince his words post-race. He was quick call out Bubba Wallace for caution the wreck and Denny Hamlin for alleged jumpstarting. The No:19 Toyota driver even slammed the No:11 for using him up using over aggressive moves. But ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty has come forth rejecting Truex Jr.’s claims and reminded the veteran that he has done the same during the race.

Then he says, ‘I got used up.’ I haven’t seen him get used up. I saw Denny edge him up a little bit. That’s not used up. Truex would’ve done the same thing in one and two….But when Martin gets out, we hear how it was everybody else’s fault. Everybody else’s fault. Got rolled on the restart. Got used up in turns one and two. Did he say anything about his pit crew getting their butt kicked on pit road? That’s enough about Martin Truex.

Richard Petty’s son wasn’t impressed by the way Martin Truex Jr. approached the situation regardless of how agitated he was. He is right in the sense that the incident wasn’t as serious as he made it sound in his post-race interview and Hamlin’s moves were something most in the Cup grid has been doing for a very long time.

Kyle Petty gives his verdict on Denny Hamlin’s jumpstart

One of the major controversies from last week was the alleged jumpstart of Denny Hamlin. The TV replays clearly showed Hamlin moving early in the zone. The three times Daytona 500 winner defended himself saying he moved inside the zone as it should. NASCAR also reviewed the situation and gave him clean sheet saying it was close to being illegal.

Petty addressing all the drama told Martin Truex Jr. that he should’ve been careful on the restart considering he got beat at the pit-stop. The ex-racer believes the No:19 Camry driver had to be more ready to make the first moving coming to the green-white-checkered.

He had a better restart. Listen, whether he rolled it or not, I’m not going to debate that. If this is a green-white-checkered, be up on the wheel and be ready to go Martin Truex. That’s all I’ve got to say to you.
Kyle Petty said.

The controversies surrounding the jumpstart won’t be let go by NASCAR fans anytime soon as it was done by Hamlin, one of the most disliked racer, against Truex Jr., one of the most loved racer. At the end of the day the driver have moved on and shifted their focus to the coming events.
