2017 NASCAR Cup Series Champion Martin Truex Jr. came to Richmond with hopes of securing his maiden win of 2024, as the track has always been his favourite to race win. But despite him leading over 200 laps, it was the hometown racer Denny Hamlin, his JGR teammate, that took home the victory on Sunday.

Martin Truex Jr. was cruising towards his fourth win at the track with just one and half lap left for the checkered flag. Unfortunately, NASCAR was forced to wave the caution flag after Bubba Wallace spun out Kyle Larson. Lead the whole race and then some stupid, some dumba** move brings out a caution coming to the white flag and ruins our whole night.

It was good for Bubba Wallace that the No:23 team had a pit-stop issue. If not, he would’ve been in the top-5 fighting for positions in the final laps. Truex Jr. retaliated against both Hamlin and Larson by driving into them after the race during the cool down lap and the same would’ve happened to Michael Jordan’s driver.

Martin Truex called out Denny Hamlin as well

Bubba Wallace causing the caution-driving incident gave his 23XI Racing boss Denny Hamlin all the opportunity he needed to score the impressive win. But it didn’t come easy as he had to use up his teammate Truex Jr. and the ex-champion wasn’t pleased with it. He called out Hamlin for his moves and reminded him that it’s not the way teammates should be raced.

I felt like (Hamlin) used me up there in Turn 1. I didn’t really appreciate a teammate racing me like that. I wish he would have gave me a chance. But that’s the way it is.
Martin Truex Jr. said.

The TRD driver is frustrated at the moment and has gone out of his way by retaliating such a way. But he can easily move on from the drama and start focus on next-weekend, as there is still 19 more races left in the regular season for him to win and secure playoff spot.
