NBA legend Michael Jordan has been a big motorsports fan, and hailing from Charlotte, the Mecca of NASCAR, it is no surprise that he is a huge fan of stock car racing. In 2022, he decided to more deeper into the world of premier stock car racing after he built the 23XI Racing Cup series team with his friend Denny Hamlin, who races in the NSCAR for three-time Superbowl-winning coach Joe Gibbs.
The team made its Cup debut in 2021 and has gradually become a contender for wins. Jordan and Hamlin aim to make the team title contenders by 2026. With NASCAR’s sole African American driver, Bubba Wallace, and the sport’s most promising prodigy, Tyler Reddick, in the lineup, they have had a solid 2023 season. The driver made it to the playoff for the first time in the team’s history.
Reddick, who is one of the last eight drivers in the fight for the championship, while talking about his boss, revealed the similarity there is between Jorda and other team owners. He pointed out that every other team boss has had massive success in their non-racing ventures, just like they’ve had in NASCAR.
The No:45 Toyota driver said, when asked about Jordan’s involvement, set expectations for the team, told the NASCAR YouTube channel, “It’s Michael Jordan, so the expectations got to be right. Everything he’s accomplished and everything he’s touched, watching its success… It’s not just him, though, you know, the other owners are very successful and other aspects of business that they’ve been a part of.”

Tyler Reddick claims 23XI has five or six crew chief caliber individuals in the team shop
Reddick discussed the involvement of Joe Gibbs Racing driver Hamlin, who plays a major role in running the race team day-to-day, and said that the 51 times Cup race winner is similar to Michale Jordan in multiple aspects. He said, “And then, of course, Denny Hamlin is very much the same type of person, right?”
He later pointed out that the individuals in the race shop who work hard to field his and Bubba Wallace’s Toyota Camry have some who have the caliber to be crew chiefs. He said, “So, I feel like we’ve got five or six Cup crew chief caliber individuals in the shop they’re helping guide the ship”
He also discussed the team dynamic at the 23XI Shop and claimed that, unlike in most other teams where there will be some divisions among the crew over their car driver, the crew works as a single team. Reddick said that the cars of him and Wallace that have secured two wins so far this season were a product of his team working together.
