Legacy Motor Club driver Noah Gragson’s season has gone from bad to worse in hours after he was caught liking a social media post. It featured a meme making fun of George Floyd, an African American killed by police during an arrest. His death prompted a global protest for racial justice and against police brutality.

The 2022 Xfinity series runner-up hasn’t produced a solid performance this season, and his team has often failed to give him the best car. He also had a heated confrontation with Ross Chastain of Trackhouse Racing, resulting in the No:1 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver landing a right hook on his face. Now the social media controversy has taken it to the next level.

Jimmie Johnosn’s team announced the suspension of the drivers hours before the Michigan Cup race practice. He will be replaced by his former Xfinity Series teammate Josh Berry. The youngster wasted no time admitting to his mistake and lack of focus. He apologized to all parties involved and realized that he deserved the punishment.

He tweeted, “I am disappointed in myself for my lack of attention and actions on social media. I understand the severity of this situation. I love and appreciate every one. I try to treat everyone equally, no matter who they are. I messed up, plain and simple.”

NASCAR has indefinitely suspended Noah Gragson as well

The Premier Stock car racing sanctioning body quickly responded to the decision made by Legacy MC and followed it by announcing its decision on the issue. They reported that Grason was suspended for an indefinite period. Both the team and sanctioning body feel that what the driver did isn’t something the parties involved want to associate with their values.

NASCAR fully supports Legacy Motor Club’s decision to suspend Noah Gragson. Following his actions on social media, NASCAR has determined that Gragson has violated the Member Conduct section of the 2023 NASCAR Rule Book and has placed him under indefinite suspension,” the statement read.

The driver might not lose his seat or a spot in NASCAR over the issue, but it will make potential sponsors in the future think twice. After all, bad PR isn’t something most firms can’t afford.  To get re-instated, Gragson has to undergo NASCAR’s sensitivity training, and the parties involved are discussing terms around it. This is a big blow for the rookie, as his 2024 seat isn’t still a 100% guarantee.
