The NASCAR community is celebrating the return of North Wilkesboro Speedways return to the Cup series for the first time since the 1996 season. It was one of many short tracks that NASCAR forgot once removed from the colander.  Other than some occasional late-model races and regional races, the track never hosted any significant races.

Fans have been petitioning for the track’s return for many years, and it gained traction when the track was added to NASCAR iRacing under the leadership of Dale Earnhardt Jr. The sport replaced the Texas Motor Speedway as the All-Star race venue to announce the return of the iconic short track. A track series race was awarded to the track as well.

The exhibition race weekend will be a learning experience for the most senior and rookie drivers of the Cup series. None have driven a race at the track in Cup cars before. At the same time, many drivers have positive things to say about the track. However, Noah Gragson of LEGACY MC has some strong criticism. He pointed out that the track lacks basic infrastructure like parking spaces and compared it to the Fyre Fest, a music festival scam from 2017.

Thankful to be able to get more laps in a race car. So that’s always fun. Yeah, the place is alright. Definitely, people love this place, but I’m having fun we’re learning the race track. It’s like the track is starting to come apart every single time you’re out there through a run,” Noah Gragson said.

It’s cool. I hope some fans come out. I came out here for a modified race last year. Man, the parking’s tough here, though. It’s hard to invite people to come watch you race, and your friends and whatnot when it’s almost impossible to park anywhere around here. My opinion, it was a cool idea but it’s kind of like Fyre Fest 2.0,” Gragson added.

Unlike his teammate Erik Jones, Gragson is yet to secure a spot in the All-Star main event. He has two options to secure a spot in the final event either he has to top the open race or enter by winning the most fan votes.

Gragson chance of winning the open race is slim as he has a tough compilation. He has to race against JGR’s Ty Gibbs, SHR’s Ryan Preece, and Aric Almirola, along with Josh Berry of HMS, who is replacing Alex Bowman. All these drivers have cars way faster than the No:42 of Grigson’s.

I’ve been looking forward to the All-Star race weekend. The “Vote for Noah” fan vote campaign has been pretty fun, and the fans have really gotten into it. We’ve been handing out buttons and posting flyers everywhere. I hope to win the Open race and not need the vote, but either way, I want the No. 42 Sunseeker Resorts Chevrolet in the main event,” Gragson said about the All-Star race.

It’s going to be a wild race at a historic track where we can highlight our pit crews and team, have some fun, and go for it all. I hope the fans have a blast. It’s going to be a special weekend, and I am really just happy to have the opportunity to be a part of it,” Gragson added.
