The NASCAR world is in shock right now as the 37-years old former NASCAR driver and USAC sensation Bobby East was brutally stabbed to death in Los Angeles, California. Bobby East a three times USAC champion, born in Torrence, California in a very respected arcing family was found murdered last Wednesday outside LA.  

Police in Westminster, California have arrested 27 years old Trent William Millsap for the murder of Bobby East in Westminster 76 gas station at 5:51 pm. Though the stock car racer was quickly taken to the nearest hospital was pronounced dead shortly after. The son of Janice and famed USAC Hall of Fame car builder Bob East has a legacy of USAC success and an unfinished NASCAR career left behind.

Reacting to the driver passing away US Auto Club released a statement acknowledging that Bobby East was one of the most prolific drivers of his era as the three times USAC National Champions in the USAC Silver Crown and Midgets. The statement also points out his 56 career USAC wins of which 46 came in national-level series racing.

Bobby East, one of the most prolific drivers of his era and a three-time USAC National Champion driver in USAC Silver Crown and Midgets, passed away on the night of July 13, 2022, in southern California. Born in Torrance, California but making his home throughout his racing career in Brownsburg, Indiana, East captured 56 career USAC-sanctioned feature victories, 48 of them in national divisions,” read the USAC statement.

Bobby East first burst into the NASCAR racing scene in  2001 after he became the youngest driver to have won a USAC series as he won the  National Midget race in Indiana at the age of 16. He later went on to win the USAC championship in 2004 a feat he repeated in 2012 and 2013 with Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing.

Following his 2004 championship run he went into NASCAR with the Ford driver’s development program. His first NASCAR national series outing came in 2006 as he made his first full season with Wood Brothers/JTG Racing in the Truck series though he failed to make a mark with his best finish being p11. He raced in both Xfinity and Truck series in the following season and his last time in NASCAR came in 2008 when he raced Roush Fenway Racing in the Truck series.
