2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson is set for a tight 2024 season. Alongside his 38-race Cup schedule, he will also race in the Late Modal and Midget dirt series and the Indianapolis 500. He will drive in the premier IndyCar race for Arrow McLaren with the help of his NASCAR team owner, Rick Hendrick.
Larson will become the first driver since Kurt Busch in 2015 to race in the Indy 500 while being an active driver in NASCAR. He hopes to make history by winning the event and becoming the first NASCAR driver to win the Crown Jewel race. According to legendary racer and former Indy 500 winner Alexander Rossi, Larson can do it.
Rossi won the 100th edition of the Indy 500 in 2016 on his debut. He has always supported Larson and has often praised him for his racing prowess. Rossi pointed out that there is no doubt that the HMS driver will be a challenger for the win and reminded the fans that he has often called Larson a world-class talent.
He is going to be a fantastic addition. He's going to be up to speed right away. He's going to be a challenger to win the thing…I don't need to watch him race to know that. Oh, he’s phenomenal. I've said for a long time he's one of the best in the world. That doesn't come easily in what he's accomplished in his career. It's pretty much second to none.Rossi said, as reported by Autoweek.
Kyle Larson has to race 1100 miles the same day
The Labor Day weekend will be hectic for Larson as he is set to race in two separate events. First, he must qualify and race in the Indy 500 with McLaren for 500 miles. Since it would be his debut, the task would be hard.
He then has to race the No:5 Chevy Camaro ZL1 on the same day for 600 miles in the Coco-Cola 600. It is the longest and one of the most physically taxing races in the NASCAR Cup Series schedule, making it tougher.
Despite all this, as Rossi suggested, Larson can come out triumphant. The Chevy driver has always proven his worth from the start when he debuted in a separate racing series, and he is expected to do the same at Brickyard.
