“Racist folks are squirming right now”- NASCAR Twitter reacts to the first-ever female African American track president announcement

Latasha Causey

For a woman of color, securing one of the highest executive positions in NASCAR might be way beyond there dream. The cultural norm around the sport provides less opportunity to women from minority communities, who first have to overcome gender barriers with their group. Latasha Causey has overcome all those hurdles.

Causey will take over the office of Phoenix Raceway Track president at the end of the month. She will replace Julie Giese, who is set to lead the Chicago Street race cup debut of 2023. Giese is also a woman who made history when she became the first female track President of Phoenix.

Latasha Causey is a community development executive and Phoenix native. She has accumulated several accolades and awards, including the  Sports Business Journal’s Outstanding Women in Business Award. She is also the founding member of the NASCAR Accelerators host committee.

NASCAR views Latasha as the perfect fit for the role, as she is one of the most accomplished community developers who can lead the organization’s social efforts. Her appointment is also based on the advancements she can bring to the race’s fan experience.
