Rajah Caruth is honored to be getting the chance to support Wendell Scott's 1971 paint scheme at the upcoming truck series race.
Rajah Caruth's No: 24 GMS Chevy Truck
Rajah Caruth, the GMS racing driver, will honor the legacy of NASCAR legend Wendell Scott at the upcoming Craftsman Truck Series race at Darlington Raceway. Caruth will support a special throwback paint scheme on his number 24 Chevrolet Silverado to pay his tribute to Wendell Scott.
The paint scheme that’s been selected for the upcoming Darlington race is one which Wendell Scott, during his racing days called, ‘the best car I had ever drove.’ The car was a 1971 Mercury Cyclone that Leonard Wood had fine-tuned. However, despite all the efforts in the background, Scott never got to show what the car was capable of; he was in a crash on lap eight of the 188-lap event.
While the paint scheme on Rajah Caruth‘s car will represent Scott’s best opportunity behind the wheel, it also represents the incredible never give up attitude that Wendell Scott displayed over the course of his 13-year NASCAR Cup Series career. During his infamous crash, Scott suffered substantial injuries which forced him to spend 32 days in the hospital recovering from multiple fractures in his leg, as well as other injuries to his knees, pelvis, and ribs.
The injuries were extremely severe all over his body, and it was only because of his sheer fighting spirit that he could make a successful recovery. After the incident, many felt that Scott’s racing days were over; however, against all the odds, he could return to racing.
Wendell Scott returned to racing in 1973 for one final outing
While Wendell Scott went through a terrible crash and suffered multiple long-term injuries, he was determined to race for at least one more time in his career. Scott returned to racing in 1973 for one final race, and his grandson, while talking about him recently, said, “Although this car is associated with tragic circumstances to some extent, to me it represents a dream that came true.”
“It was the best car that my grandfather could put together being unsponsored throughout his career, and he willed it happen. Just like anything else in the world you never know what will happen, but for him the pursuit of his purpose made it all worth it.” Rajah Caruth has also spoken about Scott and the opportunity of running the special paint scheme on his car.”
“Having the opportunity to run a throwback scheme to Wendell Scott that honors his legacy next weekend is really special. That paint scheme in particular is very special for the entire family, and having their support for not only this race, but the entire season, is incredible. Being able to carry on his legacy is truly a blessing and a dream come true. Hopefully, we are able to make him proud and give this truck the good run that he was looking for all those years ago.”
Rajah Caruth is extremely thrilled to be getting to race with the Wendell Scott-influenced paint scheme on his car and is also grateful to the whole Scott family for supporting him throughout the season. At the upcoming NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race, all eyes will be on Caruth’s truck, and it will be fascinating to see how he will perform.
