Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota continued their absolute dominance at Richmond Raceway as they secured yet another victory, with Denny Hamlin at the helm. The No:11 driver defeated his veteran teammate Martin Truex Jr. in a wild overtime battle and secured his 53ed Cup race win in front of his home town crowd.

But as often it is the case Denny Hamlin’s win didn’t lack controversies. Martin Truex Jr. in his post-race interview accused the No:11 Toyota of jumpstarting and the footage of the race showed the race winner hitting on the gas early. But NASCAR gave Hamlin a clean sheet and asserted that though it was a close call. Now seven times Cup champion Richard Petty addressed the situation and pointed out that the 23XI Racing co-owner did move early.

I think he started a little early, you know, from that standpoint. But when you get down and you've done a race that long, it's hard to make a judgment call. If that had been the first of the race, they could have probably made a judgment call. But under those circumstances, they were just trying to get the race over with.
Richard Petty said via a video he posted on social media.

The Hall of Famer doesn’t see it as a major issue as the race is already over and is history. He also highlighted that it was tough to make a judgement call by NASCAR so late after the race. The race legend sees no issue in Hamlin’s win though he feels the pain of Martin Truex Jr.

Dale Inman told Richard Petty that Denny Hamlin didn’t do anything wrong

Petty’s ex-crew chief and NASCAR legend Dale Inman also addressed the situation and pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the results. He urged everyone in the racing community to get over the results as there is nothing left to do now.

I really didn't see nothing wrong with the restart because he is number one, and he certainly got the green flag and the checkered. There ain't no question about that. So, it's in the history book now, so we'll just have to leave it at that.
Dale Inman said.

Martin Truex Jr., the only guy who was arguable wronged with the “jumpstart” has already moved on and is getting ready fight for win next-week at Martinsville. It would be better if NASCAR does have details the decision to not penalize Denny Hamlin and set a clead president for the coming races.
