Hendrick Motorsports boss Rick Hendrick claims that his driver, William Byron, is a good poster guy young racers or any other athletes can look up to. The No:24 Chevy Camaro ZL1 driver is the youngest driver in the 2023 Championship-4 fight. He goes into the finale as the driver with the most wins this year and is determined to make a unique championship story at Phoenix.
He will be challenging his teammate and 2021 Cup Series champion Kyle Larson for the title. Team Penske Racing’s inform driver Ryan Blaney and Joe Gibbs Racing’s Christopher Bell, who is the best qualifier of the season, are his other two rivals. All four have a solid claim to the title, and it won’t be surprising to see a four-way battle for the win at the end.
While talking about the coming race and how special it would be to see Byron winning it, Hendrick admitted that he sees the HMS youngster as a role model driver. He highlighted his impressive rise to the top, Byron, his work ethic, and the professionalism he showed on and off the track while repressing the sponsors.
I think William is a good poster guy for a lot of young people that have ambitions to be in racing or any sport; that you want to work as hard as he’s worked to get there with not a whole lot of help from a lot of different people. He did it on his own. He knew what steps he needed to take, and he did it. and super confident in his ability and just a good person, too.Hendrick said, as reported by RACER.
Rick Hendrick explains why William Byron often doesn’t get the limelight
Hendrick, while talking about what Byron often goes unnoticed, pointed out that unlike some of his rivals, Byron isn’t an aggressive racer, nor does he run his mouth. He also highlighted the professional and gentile approach of the Chevy driver.
You don’t have to apologize for anything with him, and I think that’s one of the reasons he’s kind of been under the radar. He’s not outspoken. He doesn’t run his mouth. He doesn’t go out and rough people up. He’s done it in a very professional way…
For Hendrick, watching Byron win the Cup title will be a special story as he is one of the few self-made racers in the Cup grid. Byron started racing in his late teens after racing for a long time in the iRacing series, and that same kid winning the title convincingly will be a special story.
