NASCAR, the world’s premier stock car racing championship, is working overtime to return to the position it once was in the early 2000s in terms of popularity and fandom. The sport started losing its footing in the 2010s after peaking at the start of the century, and now, in the next-gen car era, it is going through a phase of evaluation.

NASCAR has been making some radical changes to the series, including format changes and car changes that some of the current fans of the sport hate. This has made some of them criticize the sanctioning body for every new decision. Reigning NASCAR Cup champion Ryan Blaney has spoken out against the claims that the sport is going downhill due to the current executive decisions.

Blaney pointed out that NASCAR was doing the right with the development of the sport and acknowledged their hard push for growth. He pointed out that he has witnessed the work of NASCAR and its results since making his debut, and what he has witnessed so far has been positive.

Ryan Blaney hates the going downhill comments from some fans

Before giving the going in the right direction verdict, Blaney admitted that he finds it irritating to hear people claiming NASCAR is going downhill. He pointed out that the sport is going uphill, and the comments are the product of the negativity around the world.

It grinds my gears a little bit when people just say, oh, the sport’s just going downhill. Like, what are you talking about? It’s going uphill! In the negative world that we live in, I guess you’re going to have that all the time.

Blaney has admitted that he fully trusts the NASCAR governing body to lead the sport in the right direction, and he believes they are doing it right now. But the criticism also showcases that NASCAR needs to be a bit more transparent with fans about its goals, plans, and execution.
