Shane van Gisbergen left his home in New Zealand and everything he has built in 17 years as a racer in Supercars Series for NASCAR. He was signed by Trackhouse Racing in a development deal that was inspired by his millstone Chicago Street race win in 2023. The three-time Supercars champion has moved on from his racing life in Australia and is no-longer missing the series as he did in the beginning.

The Kiwi driver recently spoke to Fox Sports about his time away from Supercar Racing and his transition to NASCAR, after experiencing racing in the ovals with Kaulig Racing in the Xfinity Series. He pointed out that at first, he greatly missed his old days racing V8 cars in Oceania but as the season of both NASCAR and Supercars progressed, he has gotten over the feeling.

It was a bit weird the first practice. It’s been 16-17 years, so watching someone else drive out in my car basically was a bit of a weird feeling. But not much happened in the race, so I didn’t miss being there.

Shane Van Gisbegen told Fox Sports.

Gisbergen seems to be feeling at home as of now in the Xfinity series and will definitely improve as he obtains more experience in it. The Kiwi seems to be getting more comfortable and improving his results as the races go by.

The driver was asked about his thoughts on driving at the Chevrolet team for the past two seasons by Bob Pockrass. The Kiwi revealed that he’s had a blast until now racing new tracks and with the new type of car and asserted that he likes the challenge that has come due to him racing, outside his comfort zone.

It's been awesome — every moment and all the people have been nice. The racing's been good and the feeling of putting my helmet on every week being nervous and not having anticipation [for results] and just not knowing what's happening is a cool feeling. I like being out of my comfort zone at the moment.
Shane van Gisbergen said.

Gisbergen seems to really love the challenge of racing in a new series and speaks about how he feels very cool every time he gets into the car. Moreover, with the current season being a massive one in terms of learning and improving, it does seem that the number 97 will persevere in the Xfinity and NASCAR series.
