Since Shane van Gisbergen won the Chicago Street race in his NASCAR Cup debut, he has been the talk of the town. It’s about to be nearly two months, but the buzz has not sobered down yet. Van Gisbergen continues to remain the man of interest in the motorsports world. After all, he did make history by becoming the first New Zealander to win in the NASCAR Cup Series. It was also the Series’ inaugural Street race in Chicago.

After his sweet taste of the victory, Shane van Gisbergen will make a second Cup Series start in August. He will again team up with Trackhouse Racing’s Project 91 in the Verizon 200 at the Brickyard.  The event is scheduled for August 13th at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The best part about the upcoming race is that NASCAR will see two Supercars drivers on the grid at the road course as Brodie Kostecki announced his Cup debut this week.

The Supercars racers will drive a Chevrolet Camaro though they will compete for different teams, as Kostecki will team up with Richard Childress Racing. The Supercars legend Shane van Gisbergen was sensational in Chicago and will run another round for the Cup Series. However, it does not end there. According to the sources, “It is considered almost a formality that he switches to NASCAR” in 2024.

Van Gisbergen spoke about his opportunity to enter another cup race at Indianapolis. He stated, “I never dreamed this could have all rolled out this way. Just getting to race in NASCAR is an opportunity I never thought I would get, but then to win and get another chance this year is beyond anything I imagined.” Van Gisbergen thanked Trackhouse owner Justin Marks and everybody else for the opportunity.

Shane van Gisbergen added, “Everyone in NASCAR welcomed me to Chicago, and it’s been awesome to see how big the reception from that race has been around the world. I am honored to be a part of it.” Van Gisbergen’s love for NASCAR can be seen in his statements. At this point, it is almost certain he wants to try his hand at NASCAR. His upcoming race at IMS might be a test run to check the waters.

Shane van Gisbergen might finally move worldwide for his stock car racing career. Though the rumors have been going around for quite a long time, the Kiwi has not spoken about it yet. Although, the Triple Eight Race Engineering Supercars team gave their blessings if he wanted to pursue a NASCAR career. One can expect an official announcement regarding this subject soon.
