Shane van Gisbergen, after stunning the NASCAR world with his debut win at Chicago, is vying for a full-time seat in the American racing class. Shane van Gisbergen’s shot at full-time NASCAR action looms ever closer as Triple Eight, his Supercars haven, has taken a decisive step. 

The NASCAR bug bit Shane van Gisbergen after his stellar Cup Series victory in Chicago, which will be one of the greatest NASCAR debuts in modern history. Overcoming challenging weather, he snatched victory, showcasing his mettle and versatility.  Impressively, he followed up this victory by returning to the track six weeks later at the IMS road course, where he secured a commendable tenth-place finish.

Triple Eight, van Gisbergen’s Supercars home, revealed his imminent exit, allowing him to chase his overseas racing dream sooner than expected. Although the Kiwi held a contract until the end of 2024, the Red Bull-backed team has agreed on an early release of his contract.

The seasoned speedster’s seven-year stint with Triple Eight is winding down, allowing Will Brown to seize the wheel for the next three years. Brown, sitting second in the standings, is set to don van Gisbergen’s mantle in 2024 and keep it warm till 2026.

The announcement comes after the team has agreed to facilitate van Gisbergen’s overseas adventures. “As we’ve made clear from the very start, Triple Eight wholeheartedly supports SVG’s decision to showcase his world-class talent abroad and we look forward to watching him continue to tear up the track like we witnessed in Chicago last month,” the team said.

van Gisbergen has won all three Supercar championships with the team and hopes to bow out as a four-time champion as he trails the leader, Brodie Kostecki by only 53 points. The team’s aim aligns with his view as Triple Eight remains resolute in their 2023 Championship campaign. The team sounded determined to conclude the season triumphantly as they said in their announcement, “Of course, we still have a fight on our hands to win the Drivers’ and Teams’ Championships this season, and that remains Triple Eight’s immediate focus.”

Trackhouse Racing’s owner, Justin Marks, and van Gisbergen echoed a prolonged partnership desire with Trackhouse Racing. His successful foray has turned heads, nurturing speculations of a full-time NASCAR plunge in 2024. This announcement from Triple Eight will fuel his aspirations to clock more race hours. van Gisbergen is also speculated to drive the Xfinity Series, ARCA, Truck, and Cup races in 2024.
