The 2024 NASCAR Cup season will kick start with the unofficial season opener, LA Clash at the Colosseum this weekend. The drivers are getting ready for the event while enjoying the off-season’s final day. 23XI Racing driver Bubba Wallace used his day to attend the NBA game between the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz.
Wallace attended the Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks won the game 118 to 103 after an energizing battle. Donte DiVincenzo’s 33-pointer game helped the Knicks to secure the win over Collin Sexton’s Jazz. The wit helped the New York team continue their impressive run in the second half of the 2023-24 season, while the Jazz team failed to show progress.
Knicks acknowledge the presence of the sole African American Cup Series racer in NASCAR at MSG by sharing his picture sitting at the court-side via their official X handle. Wallace is the most successful racer from the African American community in NASCAR and is one of the most marketable drivers in the stock car racing scene.
He drives for none other than Michael Jordan, one of the greatest basketball players ever. 23XI Racing is co-owned by Jordan and veteran NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, a three-time NFL Super Bowl-winning coach who drives for Joe Gibbs.
How did fans on social media relate to Bubba Wallace’s spotting
The fans on X had mixed reactions to Bubba Wallace being spotted at the game. Despite being the face of NASCAR, among the fans, he is one of the most divisive characters, especially among the conservative fan base, and derogatory comments online targeting the driver are pretty common on social media.
In 2020, a noose was found in Bubba Wallace’s garage ahead of the Talladega race, and it was initially expected to be a hate crime. Upon investigation, it was found that it was a false judgment. This prompted conspiracy theories. Wallace and the team staged this incident, which an FBI investigation refuted. But still, individuals with malicious intent accuse drivers of staging the noose, and many such individuals were in the Knicks’ comment box.
