Team Penske Racing had a bad day at the office on Sunday. None of their drivers finished inside the Top 10 in the NASCAR Cup race at Nashville while they were stripped of their IMS Watkins Glen Endurance race win six hours after the race. The driver that was most affected by the team on Sunday was No:12 Cup driver Ryan Blaney.

Ryan Blaney crashed on the inside wall on lap 147 results after his rivals checked him from the back following an incident involving Brad Keselowski upfront. Blaney had the hardest hit of his life and demanded that NASCAR change the concrete wall on the inside to a soft safety wall for the safety of the drivers in the future. The fans also got involved and started calling out NASCAR for the supposed safety issue.

NASCAR quickly responded to the safety concerns and promised to make it right. The statement pointed out that the sanctioning body works closely with safety engineers while deciding where to put safety barriers. NASCAR promised to make amends after scrutinizing the incident.

The incident was a frustrating experience for the No:12 driver as, for a moment after the crash, he was confident that he could save it and rejoin the race without any major damage. But he failed to get the spinning car under control and crashed the barrier.

I don’t really know what happened. Someone checked up on the restart, I guess, and I kind of checked up and got hit from behind. I didn’t know if they were wrecking, and just couldn’t get it straightened out when I got out of the grass. I thought I was going to come back around, and that I’d be OK, but it just never got back right, and I don’t know why there’s no safer barrier there,” Blaney said.

He added that he really feels disappointed as he has gone home early due to such an incident. He said, “That’s pretty ridiculous, honestly — hardest hit I’ve ever had in my life, so happy to be all right. It sucks for the Pennzoil Ford Mustang. Stinks to go home early.”
