Martin Truex Jr. has been one of the most influential and respected NASCAR cup Series racers of all time and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has always delivered in time of need over the years as his 253 top 10s and 31 wins are a testament to it. The 2017 champion has had a good start to his 2022 season with five Top 10 finishes so far.
Martin Truex Jr. made his 600th career NASCAR Cup Race start at Dover before the race got postponed and, in his pre-race, interview the veteran acknowledged that he feels it is really cool for him to still fight for victories after such a long career he had so far and when enquired about his potential entry in Hall of Fame in the future he replied he got a chance of entry stats-wise but added that he hasn’t given that much thought to it.
“It’s a lot of races, but pretty cool though to be around as long as we have. My career has not been easy. We have had a lot of tough years – been through a lot of stuff and to still be here battling, fighting for wins is pretty cool,” Martin Truex Jr. said.
“I don’t know. I can’t answer that. I see guys in the Hall of Fame and what they have done, and stat-wise it’s there, but I don’t know. I’ve not really given it much thought,” Martin Truex Jr. added.
“I’ve enjoyed it,” Martin Truex Jr. on driving the next-Gen car
Martin Truex Jr. acknowledged that he has enjoyed racing and working with the team on the Next-Gen car. He added that there haven’t been many changes to the car for better or worse as he is more focused on working with the team to produce the best finish they can in every race.
“I’ve enjoyed it. I love racing. I love working with my team. Working with my guys has always been the most satisfying part of this job. Working with a group to try to be successful together, that’s been a lot of fun. It’s not different now. I don’t think too much about what I like better or worse about the car. It is what it is, and you’ve got to deal with it. I just try to focus on working with the team and doing the best job I can do for them,” Martin Truex Jr. said.
Martin Truex Jr. went on to say that 2022 so far has been decent or okay for him though they had some tough races. He went on to say they have got some good tracks scheduled shortly which he believes can provide them with good finishes. Martin Truex Jr. added that though there is not the fastest car on the track they will be trying to find some stuff that can make them better.
“So far it has been fine. Hopefully, we can win soon. It’s been a decent year so far. We’ve been okay. We’ve had a couple of tough races, but that is to be expected with this. We’ve got some good tracks coming up, so if we can do our jobs well, hopefully, we can put ourselves in a good position. I don’t know that we’re the fastest car out there right now, but maybe we can find some stuff,” Martin Truex Jr. added.
